Second International Conference on Science and Technology of Advanced Materials (STAM 23) at Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous), Kothamangalam, Kerala
The science departments of Mar Athanasius College (Autonomous), Kothamangalam, Kerala, India organised the second International Conference on Science and Technology of Advanced Materials (STAM 23) on 18, 19 and 20 of April, 2023 in our campus in hybrid mode. This conference would focussed on the areas of Materials Science and Technology with significant impact on modern life and was an ideal platform for the participants to interact with the pioneers and world renowned experts from Academia and Industry in the field. Eminent scholars and young researchers within India and abroad participated in the conference. The conference was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Chandrabas Narayana, Director, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thiruvananthapuram. Distinguished Prof. (Dr) T Pradeep (Padma Sree and Santhi Swaroop Bhatnagar Awardee), of Indian Institute of Technology Madras delivered the keynote address. Around two hundred and fifty participants from 52 national institutes/ universities/colleges inside and outside our state attended the event. The 3-day event comprised of 6 plenary lectures, 3 keynote lectures and 7 invited talks. 117 oral presentations and 53 poster presentation of total 170 scientific papers were presented in the. As part of the conference, Bulletin of Materials Science (Springer) (Special Issue) and Materials Today Proceedings (Elsevier, Netherlands) is publishing a special volume of 120 research articles. Abstract of proceedings with ISBN was unveiled during the conference Prof. Kuruvilla Joseph of IIST Thiruvananthapuram. . Six prizes sponsored by The Royal Society of Chemistry, UK was presented to six best papers presented. The conference provided a platform to present research outputs and disseminate innovative information by actively engaging in scientific discourse. During the inaugural session Dr. Chandrabas Narayana pointed out the relevance and need of such interdisciplinary conferences among the scientific community. Dr. Pradeep in his keynote address emphasized the importance of industry-based research and research for clean water in the present scenario. In the valedictory function Dr. Ajaygosh, Former Director of CSIR-NISST was the chief guest. He appreciated the college for organizing the second edition of conference on an interdisciplinary subject which is having a huge impact on societal challenges including the environment and climate change, advanced manufacturing, renewable and sustainable energy, materials efficiency, healthcare, biotechnology, aerospace and transport, communications and information technology.
